Ratner Companies Renew Agreement with CheckAGAIN

Herndon, VA
March 23, 2005

CheckAGAIN, a major provider of electronic payment solutions and a unit of Fiserv, Inc. (Nasdaq: FISV), has extended its agreement with Ratner Companies, LLC, to provide check recovery services to the company's nearly 800 salons. Ratner Companies operates several hair salons, including Hair Cuttery®, Bubbles®, Color Works® and Easy Color®.

CheckAGAIN services will continue to positively impact Ratner operations by maximizing check recovery, thus drastically reducing bank fees and returning 100% of the principal to the client, said Don Bauernfeind, president of CheckAGAIN. CheckAGAIN's check verification and recovery services streamline operations by providing a higher rate of return, eliminating paper trails, improving recovery rates and reducing loss.

"From a financial perspective, CheckAGAIN has continued to improve our recovery rates. We now recover 86% of all NSF checks," said Jim Horner, vice president of finance for Ratner Companies. "We are most pleased with our collection rates and how significantly they have increased."

Also offered is Web-enabled reporting that gives Ratner Companies the ability to manage check recovery online, providing easy access to detailed check management that is customized to meet each location's specific business needs.

"The most beneficial service is the online management and the ease with which we can pull up detailed reports for multiple check writers as well as our employees," said Horner. Most importantly, this service gives Ratner the ability to effectively focus resources where needed, he said.

"The business relationship between CheckAGAIN and Ratner has strengthened and continues to reinforce the importance of check recovery needs," Bauernfeind said. "We are continually committed to offering our clients the best recovery service, with the best customer service, in the industry."

CheckAGAIN services offered to Ratner include:

  • Electronic Check Re-presentment (RCK) — Uses electronic recovery methods to re-present funds directly to the consumer's bank account. This process means faster recovery, resulting in 20% to 30% higher recovery rates and reduced bank fees.

  • Centralized Returns — Enables multiple locations to consolidate returned checks into one bank, even if multiple depository banks are being used. This greatly reduces bank fees and accelerates information associated with returned checks.

  • Web-Enabled Reporting — Allows managers to view returned items, control how they are handled, access images and status of all returned items, and export data to a variety of accounting applications. Push reporting enables automatic e-mailing of customized reports to internal client personnel, allowing clients to reduce their internal overhead costs.
